Sooo, I might have diverged from my tbr. I know, I know. but this is why I don’t normally do tbr’s. I just like reading whatever I feel like reading.
The thing I love about Bridget Jones is that she’s so normal, so exactly like most women on this earth. There are so many moments throughout this book where I smiled because I understood how she felt because I have felt that way before. Of course a lot of stupid/crazy stuff happens to her but at the same time she’s just looking for love and happiness. She’s not satisfied with her body (like me) and still she can’t seem to want change badly enough to do something about it (like me).
In case you didn’t know: Bridget Jones is in love with her boss. He’s a real flirt and keeps leading her on. Until finally things might be looking up.. (Most people will have seen the movie or read the book but still, I’ll stop here because I don’t want to spoil it.. you should read/watch it!)
The book is just like a year-long diary. It’s made up of little entries, sometimes multiple per day.
Every entry starts with her weight, total units of alcohol she drank, cigarettes she smoked, calories she ate and sometimes other things as well. And then she tells you about her day and the way it’s written is SO FUNNY!! You get her unfiltered opinion on everything and she’s hilarious.
I read this book in two days and I enjoyed it so much I really didn’t want to put it down.
Bridget Jones rules!!
Also, there are a lot of differences between the book and the movie. In the book Daniel and Mark never meet although they know each other.. And the movie kiss in the end, you know, the one in the snow and Bridget in her underpants.. It’s not in the book, which I thought was a shame because I love that kiss.
Also, also, both Colin Firth and Hugh Grant are mentioned in the book. Isn’t that amazing!!?? Colin is mentioned because they refer to him for his role as Mr Darcy in the BBC mini series of Pride and Prejudice, which is in its own turn simply fantastic because in the Bridget Jones movie he plays Mark Darcy..
There’s this quote in the book where Bridget is making fun of his name because he’s looking really glum at the New Year’s party. I instagram’ed it, if you’re interested.
So if you’re looking for a fun book to read, this one is about love, family, friends, boring jobs, new jobs, nerves, fear, sadness, loneliness and betrayal.
I hope you’ll love it as much as I do.
