Next week, it’s BookTubeAThon time!! Ever since Ariel (@ArielBisset) announced this, I have been dying to make my tbr. Because planning is as much fun as the thing itself, right? This year, I wanted to push myself a little further, so I actually started my own BookTube Channel and I must admit.. I’m terrified! I’m editing my video now and well.. I still have to get used to my voice on tape. To make things worse, I’ve been ill for most of the past week. I only got my voice back this morning but I still feel really bad. So my recorded voice sounds even worse than it does when I’m feeling okay.. Great job of making a first impression. Anyways, I filmed it, now I’m going to edit it and then I’ll put the link to the video here.
For those of you who aren’t all that interested in hearing my scratchy voice and seeing my pale, tired and sickly face.. I will share what I’m planning on reading in writing too.
There are seven challenges:
1) Read a book with blue on the cover
I chose Frankenstein by Mary Shelley because I already started this book and I don’t like to leave books lying around unfinished. I’m only 30 pages into the story and it really surprised me. It’s not what I expected. More on that when I actually finish it.
2) Read a book by an author who shares the first letter in their last name
My last name starts with an R and on my bookshelf I found The Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie or Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts. Both aren’t really good ReadAThon material so I went to the thrift store and found The Wave by Morton Rhue. It’s based on true events and the topic interests me so I should fly through this. Also, it’s a tiny book..
3) Read someon else’s favourite book
I picked my husband’s favourite, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. He has been telling me to read this for such a long time. So I should really make this happen.
4) Read the last book you acquired
High-Rise by JG Ballard. I bought this because I’ll watch the film once it comes out.. because.. well Tom Hiddleston plays one of the main characters and he’s my favourite actor. I think he’s brilliant in everything he does. BUT, gotta read the book first!!!
5) Finish a book without letting go of it
An interesting challenge this one. The only book I found, where I have the slightest chance of actually succeeding in this challenge is The Old Man and The Sea by Ernest Hemmingway. We’ll see how it goes…
6) Read a book you really want to read
I really want to read Mr Penumbra’s 24 Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan. I’ve been wanting to read it ever since it came out. Now is the time!
7) Read seven books
I added The Dog Stars by Peter Heller as my final book. I remember receiving this book when I was still working in the bookshop where I used to work and I was hooked the moment I took it out of the box. But I never ended up reading it. Now I don’t even know what it’s about anymore and I’m not going to look it up either. I’m going in blind. Wish me luck!
And that’s it!
These are the seven books I want to read next week. Quite the challenge indeed, but I want to read as much as I possibly can.
Are you participating in the ReadAThon?
What books are you planning on reading?
I will probably do daily updates here and on YouTube, so you will hear from me soon.
(Also sorry I’ve been absent for a while.. I’ll explain later. But it feels good to be back!)
