ICYB: Congress Information

Today, I want to talk about ICYB.
ICYB stands for International Congress of Young Booksellers.

It’s been a couple of years since I took part in this congress. The reason being that I no longer work at the bookstore. But I look back with a fondness in my heart so I wanted to address everyone who works in the bookselling industry, whether as a bookseller or in a publishing company or something else still.

Go to this congress!

What can you expect?

Presentations about current affairs in the book selling world. For example, how you can balance a physical bookshop with an online shop or the importance of Social Media to the marketing of the titles you want to publish.
Workshops that make you think outside the box and explore possibilities to integrate into your own company or shop.
Excursions in the city and to different bookshops…

But most importantly, this congress gives you the opportunity to discuss problems, questions and generally talk about the book industry with people who know exactly what you’re talking about. Talking about so many book themes creates ideas and solutions you might not have found on your own.

These people are kindred spirits.

This year, the congress takes place in Prague from the 22nd until the 27th of May.
The registration deadline is the 20th of April!!

You can find all the information here.
And even if you’re not going to Prague, it’s still an interesting FB page to follow!

I do urge you to consider going. I have enjoyed my time there immensely and I’m convinced that if we stick together as an industry, we can survive this economic turmoil.
So many amazing bookshops have closed in the past years.
Swapping ideas might not be the rescue some hope for, but I’m sure that it’ll help solve some problems or answer questions at the very least.
