Top 5 Wednesday: Favorite “Unlikeable” Protagonists

Top 5 Wednesday was created by Lainey of GingerReadsLainey, but is now hosted by Sam of Thoughts on Tomes.  You can find out more on the Goodreads group.

This week’s topic is Unlikeable Characters and I have to be honest.. I had a hard time thinking of these answers but here we go anyway. Let me know if you agree!

Kaz Brekker – Six of Crows

To say that Kaz isn’t a very nice person, is putting it lightly. He’s ruthless and will do anything to succeed. I don’t think a lot of readers actually dislike him though, neither do I. He’s a great character.

Feyre – A Court of …

a court of thorns and roses sarah j maas

I did not like her at first. When the first book opens, she’s introduced as a strong girl who takes care of her family. Later on, she let’s a certain High Lord talk her down to almost nothing. He makes her so small and I was so annoyed with her. Yes, Under The Mountain happened and she’s traumatised but it’s only in the second half of the second book and the beginning of the third book that I actually started liking her.

Daisy Buchanan – The Great Gatsby

the great gatsby f scott fitzgerald

I think the reason I was still willing to give her a chance was because Gatsby loves her and that’s kinda what the whole book revolves around. But the truth is that Daisy is selfish and annoying.

Draco Malfoy – Harry Potter series

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone j k rowling

Because yes, he’s a bully. Yes, he’s rude and snobbish. Yes, he made all the wrong choices. But I love him as a character. I loved the snark and I loved how his storyline was so unpredictable. What more can I say? He’s my fave.

Doctor Laing – High-Rise

high rise

He stands by and watches as everything goes wrong and does nothing to stop it. I didn’t really like his character as a person but he was the perfect set of eyes to tell the story through.

Are any of your favorites on my list?
