BooktubeAThon 2018 TBR

“So what is this BookTubeAThon everyone keeps talking about?”

Well:

The BooktubeAThon is week-long ReadAThon that has reading challenges, Instagram challenges & video challenges. It runs from midnight on the 30th of July to 11:59pm on the 5th of August.

Most people choose the books they want to read based on the reading challenges.
Here’s my TBR for next week!

1. LET A COIN TOSS DECIDE YOUR FIRST READ

I did the coin toss on Instagram, as you can see here.

My two books were:

A Girl is A Half Formed Thing – Eimear McBride
Because it’s written in a sort of poetry/prose mashup style and it could be something I struggle with. So if I could read this first, I have plenty of time to make my way through it.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s – Truman Capote (won the coin toss)
This one I picked for the book to movie challenge, so that I have more time to read it and then plan to watch the movie during the week.

2. READ ABOUT SOMETHING YOU WANT TO DO

The Storied Life of AJ Fikry – Gabrielle Zevin

The main character in this book owns a bookstore. After working at a bookstore for three years (about five years ago now), I keep thinking about wanting to open one of my own. But there are already quite a few bookstores here in Bruges so either I have to invent a different concept or I’ll have to find a different (interesting) location.
You know, it’s important to have dreams ;)…

3. READ AND WATCH A BOOK TO MOVIE ADAPTATION

Breakfast at Tiffany’s – Truman Capote

I know nothing about this story.. how insane is that? It’s a classic, every knows the song, still I have no idea what happens in this book/movie. I’m finding out soon though, as this is going to be my first read of the readathon!

4. READ A BOOK WITH GREEN ON THE COVER

5. READ A BOOK WHILE WEARING THE SAME HAT THE WHOLE TIME

oscar en oma rozerood eric emmanuel schmitt

I’m reading something in Dutch… If you know me, you’ll know that never happens anymore… Dutch may be my mother tongue but I only read in English. But this is quite a special book so…

I discovered this book while I was working at the bookstore. Everyone who read it, LOVED it. But when I finally decided to pick it up, it had gone out of stock… everywhere. Since then, I’ve left the bookstore, had two babies, worked three other jobs, but I still kept looking for this book. And I found it… a couple of weeks ago… at a second-hand bookstore. I’m so happy and can’t wait to pick this one up.

As for the challenge with the hat… we’ll see when I actually do that one. I’m just putting it here for now.

(This one could also work as book to movie adaptation)

6. READ A BOOK WITH A BEAUTIFUL SPINE

we're all completely beside ourselves karen joy fowler

The spine is a bit like the front cover. Gorgeous typography, beautiful yellow color, I love everything about how this book looks. As for what it’s about, I honestly don’t know that much but I’ve seen it go around the booktubes a while ago and I’m keeping the story a surprise to myself.

7. READ 7 BOOKS

This probably isn’t going to happen but the three extra books on my TBR are:

a girl is a half formed thing eimear mcbride

A Girl is a Half Formed Thing – Eimear McBride

This one lost the coin toss but doesn’t really fit in with any of the other challenges. I just picked it up at the library, read the first page and loved it.

Girl Meets Boy Ali Smith

Girl Meets Boy – Ali Smith

Again, found it at the library, have heard a lot about it and really liked the first page. Plus, you know I like mythical retellings. It’s a modern-day reinterpretation of Ovid’s myth of Iphis.

a monster calls patrick ness

A Monster Calls – Patrick Ness

This one has been on my TBR for quite a while. Everyone seems to love this book, so I’m hoping I will too! I know I have a lot of sad books on my list here but that’s pretty much the mindset I’m in currently.

(This one could also work as book to movie adaptation)

And that’s it!

Are you participating in the BookTubeAThon?

I’ll try to do the insta-challenges and probably join some reading sprints but we’ll just have to see… I do work all week and when I’m not at work, I have two kids that like to be entertained. I still want to try and read as much as I possibly can…

Good luck to everyone and let me know what books you’re planning on reading!

Leave me your thoughts!!
